Toys that have stood the test of (toddler) time

So my last post was kind of intense, so I thought I’d lighten it up with some ideas for toys (for your own kids or as gifts)!

The following toys are either super popular with one or all of my boys, some have even been passed down from my four year old twin boys to my one year old boy:

Mary Meyer Taggies Buddy Dog (known as Tag Puppy at our house) $22: this is more like partial custody… this was T’s favorite for a long time, then it became S’s favorite and he still loves it but he will take it with us if we go somewhere with the baby so he can play with it… but it always ends up back in or under S’s bed!

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Puppy’s Activity Home $60: This toy has been in our house since the twins were about 1 year old… and they would still be playing with it if I hadn’t put it into the living room for Baby D to play with. It is used as a house, a suitcase, a hiding place… and a dozen other things.

Fisher-Price Learn with Me Zebra Walker (the original one was a lion not a zebra, but we gave that one away when the twins outgrew it… and replaced it with this similar one, so this kind of counts as a hand-me-down, right?) $25: All of my kids loved this toy, they sit in front of it to play with it, then they push it back and forth while they sit in front of it. Then they finally start standing up behind it and pushing it to and fro at first and then add some steps! It’s really a lot of fun to watch them with.

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Smart Stages Puppy $38- This was handed down to the twins when they were super little and they played with it non-stop (I can still sing all the songs that it play)! Now D plays with it and loves it just about as much as his brothers did. It’s not too loud, it’s got an off button (whew) and that helps everyone’s sanity.

Playskool Heroes Transformers Rescue Bots: Prices vary, we bought the first few as individual robots and I think that the prices vary depending on sales, stores, and which robot it is you are looking for. These have been to the pool, the beach and from one side of the country to the other! They all still transform! That’s impressive. And now the baby steals them as often as he can

VTech Lil’ Critters Moosical Beads $12: This was actually a gift from G-Mama and it has been wildly popular. Since we opened it when he was a few months old to now, he dances to it, smiles at it and will search for it and find it in his basket of toys.

Foam blocks: I couldn’t find the exact ones that we have but the Click N’ Play Non-toxic Foam Blocks set is pretty much the same. It’s $12, comes with 60 blocks and little carrying case. I found similar blocks for up to $50, so I think it depends on the number of blocks that you want.

Baby Einstein Take Along Tunes Musical Toy $9: This is another toy that every single one off my boys LOVE we had to get a new on for D because S and T’s toys both ended up without any stickers or working lights.

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Click ‘n Learn Camera $12: this toy teaches colors, numbers, phrases, and words in both English and Spanish. This is D’s favorite toy at my parent’s house, he carries it around with him everywhere.

Crinkle books: prices vary for this type of toy as well, I found a set of 6 books- Coolplay Baby’s First Non-toxic Soft Cloth Book Set for $14 on Amazon and these are practically identical to the ones that we have at our house. They’re great to leave in the car, diaper bag and different play areas in the house so that takes up very little room but make a cool noise.

Our “toys” also include:

  • water bottles filled with beans, rice, smaller toys, etc
  • pacifiers
  • silicone straws
  • wooden blocks
  • wipes that have been pulled ninja-fast out of wipes containers

It should be pretty obvious that I have no idea what I am doing…

Full disclosure- if you click on some of the links in this post and buy a product I may earn a little money from the purchases, but it won’t ever cost you anything extra!
